This day, that year

This day, that year,
A girl was getting ready
Amidst the commotion,
Her heart was steady.

This day, that year,
A boy was stepping up
For the girl he so loved.
The party rejoiced,
Oh, the occasion, so choiced!
They took their vows under the starry sky,
While the fire witnessed the pretty ally.

This day, that year,
A mother hid her tears,
Cast aside her manic fears.
There were duties she had to perform -
Being ceremonial was the norm.

This day, that year,
A brother thought about all those years
Of fun and frolic, his kid sister's
never-ending rollick.
He stood there, watching her grow -
Thought, could the years have not gone more slow?

This day, that year,
A father was sitting on his chair.
There were people moving all around,
There were lights and music and sound,
And he remembered the brilliant smile
He saw when his baby was nine -
weeks old.
His hands are numb and his feet cold,
Yet he sat there charming and bold.
For the time has come,
Another stepping stone -
As they took their vows under the starry sky,
While the fire witnessed the pretty ally.

This is the story,
This day, that year,
Somewhere, sometimes, every year.
